8th Annual Redfish Tournament OCT. 24th 2026

Chasin' Reds For Dan is an annual Redfish tournament held in Cedar Key, Florida, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting individuals and families directly affected by cancer. It is a wonderful opportunity to help those in need, enjoy some fishing, and spend time in one of Florida’s best coastal towns.

We invite you to join us in making a difference while having a great time.

Dan Alford (1954–2019) spent nearly four decades fishing the waters of Cedar Key, sharing his love of the outdoors with friends, family, and anyone who wanted to be on the water. While he loved catching all kinds of fish, redfish were his favorite. Dan never fished tournaments — for him, fishing was about time on the water, good company, and the joy of the chase. He was laid-back by nature but famously competitive on the water, never shy about letting others know when he was catching more fish — often brutal, always funny — and always welcoming to anglers of any experience level.

After Dan passed away following a short battle with pancreatic cancer, friends of his son Brian started Chasin’ Reds for Dan to honor his life and support families facing a similar diagnosis. Today, the annual tournament celebrates Dan’s legacy, his love of Cedar Key, and a community that comes together to help others when they need it most.

The recipient this year is Katie Scarlett. She is a devoted mom of three and a proud wife whose family has been her greatest source of strength since being diagnosed with stage 3 cholangiocarcinoma. After undergoing major surgery, doctors unfortunately discovered that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, and she is now in the midst of twelve rounds of aggressive chemotherapy. Through it all, Katie is guided by one goal, to keep fighting so she can continue being here for her children.

For most of her career, Katie worked as a school teacher, driven by a passion for helping students grow and succeed. She now serves in a leadership role supporting international educators who come to the United States through cultural exchange programs, helping build bridges between classrooms and communities around the world.
